Separate the software from the broker
A platform is the interface you use to inspect prices and place orders. Your broker and contracting entity determine the offered instruments, execution terms, custody arrangements and account charges. The same software name can appear at two brokers with very different contracts. Choose the entity first, then test the software against your workflow.
MetaTrader and existing automation
If you already use an expert advisor or a custom indicator, confirm the required MetaTrader version and the broker’s symbol specifications. MetaQuotes lists material differences between MT4 and MT5, including timeframes, order types and strategy testing. A strategy needs testing on its target platform; a version number alone is not evidence of better real-world execution.
Charting, mobile use and order entry
TradingView users should check whether the desired broker account supports order execution through the integration, not just embedded charts. cTrader and proprietary interfaces deserve the same practical trial: create a watchlist, size an order, find financing charges, edit a stop and export a statement. Test on your actual phone and internet connection.
Read availability as account-specific
The platform table uses the linked broker documentation. A listing is not a promise that every account or instrument supports the platform. Pepperstone’s account page, for example, lists TradingView for Razor and omits it from the Standard platform list. Confirm this distinction at account opening.
