Use current regulator terminology
The UAE government announced new federal legislation concerning the Capital Markets Authority and capital markets regulation in January 2026. Current broker pages may use CMA while older documents use SCA. A change in terminology does not replace the need to inspect the current official register and the exact permission. DIFC financial services fall under the DFSA’s separate framework; do not treat all UAE authorisations as interchangeable.
Match the legal name, not just the logo
Open the regulator’s website yourself. Search the legal name from the client agreement and compare the reference number, status, permitted services, restrictions and contact details. A familiar brand can have several legal entities. The DFSA warns that even its register has been cloned, so a screenshot or a link sent by a salesperson is not enough.
Read the activity scope
A firm permitted to introduce clients or arrange deals is not automatically permitted to execute trades or hold their money. For example, Vantage’s UAE disclosure explicitly separates introduction by VGFS from trading with an overseas provider. The DFSA record for IG Limited lists matched-principal dealing, while the Pepperstone DIFC record lists arranging deals. Treat each permission according to its wording.
Save a dated evidence trail
Record the register URL and date checked, the exact contracting entity and the version of the agreement. Confirm the complaint channel and any compensation or negative-balance terms for that entity and client category. Regulation reduces some risks; it does not guarantee investment performance, prevent every loss or make every advertised product suitable.
